Archery & NLP

(See Gallery Page for other outdoor activity picture pages)

On some of our NLP courses we use archery to have fun - and to learn about NLP - and to learn about how we approach our goals in everyday life...

It's an opportunity to spend some time outdoors exploring an interesting sport. Archery is a great way of utilising NLP to explore how we do things in life - how we handle aiming for targets, how we adapt our behaviours when we are not succeeding, how we use our minds and bodies to help or hinder us in daily life, etc.

When looked at through NLP 'eyes'  archery is a great metaphor or mirror for how we handle daily life - because, in archery, everything you do affects your aim in archery:

  • your posture
  • your breathing
  • your mind-set
  • your concentration or lack of it
  • your beliefs in your skill
  • your beliefs about yourself
  • your attitude towards competitiveness
  • your thoughts about the others who are taking part
  • your thoughts about on-lookers, and so on.

The review

As with all of our indoor and outdoor activities the actual participation is just the beginning of the learning. Afterwards we do the 'review' in which we draw upon our NLP skills to reflect on the insights gained through the activity - and on the the implications and applications of these insights. So, for example, archery session we might consider such questions as:

How is effectively do you commit to your goals in life?

Do your goals become masters which rule you or do maintain a sense of balance and choice?

When you waiver or dither or give up what is this in response to?

How do you handle setbacks - do they become assets or do they undermine your resolve?

Can you take advice from others - or do you have to go it alone?

plus dozens of other reflections.....!
